Happy Friday friends, hope you had a delightfully spooky Halloween. For the sake of recovering from a ghoulish night quickly and getting you into your weekend sooner I have just a quick update for you today, but all really good stuff.
QUESTION I HAVE BEEN PONDERING
How do we create VR experiences that bring awareness to incredible missions and natural phenomena in an exciting, gamified way?
I just discovered what the world’s largest organism is and the shock of it’s minimal notoriety inspired this question. It’s not a blue whale or even a mycelium fungal network, it’s actually a massive grove of trees called Pando. 47,000 genetically identical trees originating from a single underground parent clone all connected by one root system. Some estimate it to be over 1 million years old! If the Tree of Souls from Avatar is anywhere, it is inside that forest, and of course it is dying due to humanities ignorance.
Current VR experiences are either informative or entertaining, and the attempts at doing both feel elementary. I believe this beautiful symbol of our interconnectedness should be brought to life in a mystical wonderland that tells the story of an organism that is larger than the Great Barrier Reef. Some serious change could happen!
Side note- The Greek name for Aspen translates to “Shield” which was adopted by a variety of European cultures as the wood to use in shield making. Not to to protect them from physical harm but spiritual harm instead. This resonates with me beyond measure. What are your thoughts? How can we design a virtual experience to inspire people to take action?
PROJECTS I HAVE HAD MY EYES ON
The classic movement meditation of tai chi comes to Quest in an unexpected way that looks like a quite soothing experience. By following the cues you perform a guided practice in beautiful settings. Watch the trailer.
Described as a magical, musical hike through lush, chromatic VR wilderness. Bring dormant landscapes back to life by restoring native flora through light, water, and harmony, while collecting seeds to grow your own enchanted garden. Watch the trailer.
Oura Ring puts out a newsletter of their own- My favorite biohacking wearable, the Oura ring, recently released an article about the future of data and sensors that blew my mind.
UPCOMING EVENTS
This weekend Andromeda is joining MAPS at Fair Market in Austin, TX for the first Psychedelic Science Summit !
With that, a huge congratulations to the incredible humans that made the John Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness research possible. They are paving the way for bringing psychedelic therapies to the mainstream and lifting the stigma surrounding these incredible therapies.
Andromeda is headed back to the Transformational Technology Conference in Palo Alto. We get so much out of this conference, great community, great talks, and all around a great time. Hope to see you there.
OUR TITLES
Early access launch was last week on Steam, Oculus, and Viveport. The community around AudioTrip is fired up and we are thrilled to get this title in the hands of rhythm game fans worldwide. If you enjoy Beat Saber, you have to try AudioTrip.
We had a fabulous launch party in Times Square with dancers showing how they #dancelikenooneiswatching. Our unstoppable dance crew is pictured below, and you can see live replies on the AudioTrip social media accounts. We’ll have a video recap of that event soon that I cannot wait to share with you.
SoundSelf is making its way to market. It’s already in Beta and we’re working on a partnership with Sensiks to bring full sensory reality to the SoundSelf experience.
Finally, and I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am on my way to try a headband that can turn drugs into songs, and then play them into your body through a wearable device using magnetic fields and a sleek app. You get most of the effects in 10 minutes, without the actual drugs. Great for sleep, calm, relaxation, alert, relief, cognitive enhancement, performance, etc… What happens when we can release frequency for any feeling imaginable into a VR world? More on this later!
Stay blessed,
Lyle
