Where to Find Games and Other Neat Things

Hello Beautiful Humans!

The deeper I dive into this fascinating industry, the more I am amazed by what I discover.

As this regular update expands to include more biohackers, video game lovers, change-makers, and psychonauts that want to stay ahead of the curve, I would like to incorporate more of you and your stories here.

What are you working on these days? Any cool new discoveries in the bio-hacking world? I would love to hear what you’re working on and share it with our community here.

QUESTION I HAVE BEEN PONDERING

What does a conscious game store look like?

A new friend shared a great analogy with me recently. “As the market is now, Andromeda bringing transformative video game titles into Steam and Oculus stores is similar to selling meditation cushions at a gun show.” This really resonated.

We have discussed internally a long term vision of creating a Temple Store that features all the titles we develop, publish, and support in our emerging genre. Something like the Gaia TV of VR and transformative content. Experiences that connect with people on a deeper level, while also creating real-world skills that can be mastered outside of the virtual space.

This calls for a little case study to explore this further. Where Andromeda Entertainment is committed to serve the growing interest in mindfulness and wellness in the digital space, Epic games has done similar with hand-picked top tier indies in their own unique niche.

Epic games has a very interesting story as a game company. They hit the market as a development studio in 1991, and later grew into a publisher and game engine developer before moving onto console games (like my favorite as a high school student- Gears of War).

To continue their rise to video game supremacy they created the Unreal VR game engine and the worlds most Popular game Fortnite (amassing US$1 Billion in 2018 alone with over 250 million players world wide).

With a new found war chest they have emerged as a top game distribution platform focused on serving the game developers first. Game creators are vetted before being accepted onto the platform, and supported through advertising and hefty payments if you decide to go exclusive with them. To top it off you receive a much higher percentages of your games sales on their store front (88% of revenue going back to the developer, versus 70% on Steam.)

VR is our current medium but what happens when we have the audience and content that can support a whole catalog of experiences?

If we consider the rise of Location Based Experiences (LBE) like zerospace.co, the Void, and Dreamscape, there is clearly a need for something beyond violence.

With the right partners, publishers, and developers we believe we can shape the narrative and make the world of video games and entertainment as a whole a much nicer place to tune into.

PROJECTS I HAVE MY EYES ON

MARSHMALLOW LASER FEAST

This art collective is one of a few paving the way in the LBE space. Their use of physical and virtual environments and the do some incredible things with camoflaging VR headsets.

Marshmallow Laser Feast is one of the world’s leading immersive art collectives. Their work illuminates the hidden natural forces that surround us, inviting participants to navigate with a sensory perception beyond their daily experience. In these spaces, the known physical world is removed to reveal networks, processes and systems that are at once sublime, underpinned by research, and fundamental to life on Earth.

ANNAPURNA INTERACTIVE

While researching unorthodox game publishers I was really fascinated by Annapurna. They have such a unique array of complex narrative based games, as well as super enjoyable childish ones like LittleBigPlanet. They seem to really know what the center of their bulls-eye is and it shows, unlocking deep cross generational wisdom and joy through a variety of platforms
